  • The pressure within the boarding school environment had an impact on the development of the santri, especially for the santri who first lived in the boarding school. The tightness of existing regulations in the cottage affects how the social adjustment of santri students can adapt to the new environmental conditions. In doing this process of social adjustment can be influenced by how emotional intelligence is owned by every santri. Santri the higher the emotional intelligence then the better the process of social adjustment to the surrounding environment. The purpose of this study to determine the relationship of emotional intelligence with social adjustment on students living in modern boarding school. Number of subjects 161 santri living in Pondok Pesantren Modern Darul Ulum, Jombang by using purposive sampling technique. The scale used is the SEIS scale and the scale of social adjustment in the form of likert. Data analysis using product moment correlation. The result showed that there was positive and significant between emotional intelligence and social adjustment (r = 0,599, p = 0,000) with the contribution of emotional intelligence to social adjustment of 35.9%
