- Based on the need analysis on 9 October 2017 at SDLB-C Sumber Dharma Malang, the learning style is still monotonous. It occurs because the limitations in absorbing material of children with mild mental retardation and lack of Seni Budaya media variation for children with mental retardation. This research and development is aimed to know how to develop, validate, and the effectiveness of LARON media. This kind of research is the development which comprises 5 steps of the development, analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subject in this research is the mild mental retardation children with a total of 6 students of SDLB-C in Sumber Dharma Malang. The data is collected by using interview, observation, questionnaire, and documentation. Data analysis technique in this research uses quantitative and qualitative. Validation level of LARON media results a 96.5% percentage with the level of “very valid” that is determined by a media expert. Moreover, the assessment by material expert results a 96.4% percentage with the level of “very valid”. Then, the assessment by teaching expert results a 96.7% percentage with the level of “very valid”. Whereas, the effectiveness of LARON media is determined by the assessment of student response in small-scale which results a 93.8% percentage with the level of “very valid”. In addition, the assessment by teacher response in small-scale results an 80% percentage with the level of “valid”. Then, the assessment of student response in large-scale of learning results a 96.3% percentage with the level of “very valid”. Furthermore, the assessment by teacher response in large-scale of learning results a 91.4% percentage with the level of “very valid”. It shows that LARON media (Gamelan Saron) using local songs for mild mental retardation children at SLB-C have very valid and effective quality to apply in teaching media for mild mental retardation children.
