- According to the cambridge dictionary, Hoax said itself means hoax or joke. The Hoax news that some people initially used for jokes is now becoming more and more disturbing. Widespread news or Hoax news spread, and now causes a lot of negative things and began to disturb many people. Social media is an online medium, with its users can easily participate, share, and create content including blogs, social networks, wikis, forums and virtual worlds. This study takes the formulation of the problem How the police action against the spread of false news (hoax) as described in Article 28 paragraph (1) Law No.11 Year 2008 About Information And Electronic Transactions and How the police efforts in legal processing and prevent the spread of false news ( hoaxes) through social media. This research uses sociological juridical approach method, with primary data source and secondary data. Based on the results of action research conducted Polres Malang City, especially Criminal Investigation and Community Development Unit by doing counseling to the public related to the spread of false news. Malang City Police also formed a team of cyber troops in every RW to approach the community to minimize the number of spreading false news that can cause unrest in the community. Suggestions also need to be wiser in responding to the news spread in social media so as not easily affected by the news that is not known source of clear news, especially news that can disturb the people of Malang City
