- The commitment of Millennium Development Goals which had been agreed by the member states of the UN in 2000 has influenced the policies of the state. Indonesia has committed to involve MDGs as the foundation of government policy, as in the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s government. One of the targets that the government tries to achieve is the third target of MDGs, which is promoting gender equality and empowering women. The concepts used in this research is MDGs in order to dig in the government’s efforts on achieving the third target of MDGs through empowering women in terms of country’s development. This research uses descriptive method, where the analysis is the efforts made by the government on achieving the third target of MDGs. The efforts that have been made by the government is to empower women with support from various parties, including citizens. Through empowerment programs which had been done by the government, such as social, education, economics, and political empowernment. The impact has successfully shown on the increasing rate of women participation in the society. However, it has not completely decreased the paradigm regarding position and roles of women. Therefore, the government should to coordinate and improve the space for women in order to evenly cooperate with men in the country’s development process.
