- Background: Chronic hyperglycemia promotes oxidative stress which will decrease the total and function of β cell pancreas. The various compounds of cinnamon bark such as cinnamaldehyde, polyphenols, flavonoids are potentially prevent β cell pancreas from further damage and provide repairing effect. Objective: To know the effect of cinnamon bark extract (Cinnamomum burmannii) to the number of β cells pancreas male white rats strain wistar (Rattus norvegicus) diabetic model. Method: Experimental, post test only control group design. The sample were divided into four groups. Group I (positive control) were given alloxan only, group II, III, and IV were treated with alloxan and cinnamon bark extract at doses of 100, 200, 400 (mg/Kg body weight/day) for 14 days. Result: Mean of the number pancreatic β cells in positive group 14,7 cells/field of view respectively, P1 25 cells/field of view respectively, P2 42,6 cells/field of view respectively, P3 82,9 cells/field of view respectively. One way Anova resulted in significant influence p=0.000 (p<0.05). Regression test shows R2=0,872, means there is a significant effect from the cinnamon bark exctract against the histopathological picture of the pancreatic β cells, i.e. increase of the average number of pancreatic β cells in rats. Conclusion: Cinnamon Bark Extract (Cinnamomum burmannii) has an effect on number of pacreatic β cells male white rats strain wistar (Rattus norvegicus) diabetic model.
