- As an effort to encourage students’ reading habit, the goverment has issued School Literacy Movement (GLS) at SDN Girimoyo 2 Karangploso, Malang Regency. This study aimed to describe (1) the implementation of GLS at SDN Girimoyo 2 Karangploso, Malang Regency, (2) the issues of GLS implementation, and (3) the efforts to optimize GLS implementation. By using qulitative descriptive approach, this study was conducted during 2018 at SDN Girimoyo 2 Karangploso, Malang Regency. The subjects of the study were Principal, Library Coordinator, 3rd grade homeroom teacher, parents, and 3rd grade students. The data were collected by means of interview, observation, dokumentation, and source and techniue triangulation for the data validation. The findings were as follows: (1) The GLS Implementation at SDN Girimoyo 2 Karangploso has been conducted since 2016. The GLS implementation involved adaptation stage comprising 15- minute reading pre-classroom activities, infrastruture and literacy-rich environment, text-rich environment, elementary school textbook categorization, and public involvement. Meanwhile, the supporting programs were Al-Qur’an Education Center (TP), anthem singing and Pancasila Reading. (2) The issues during GLS implementation were inadequate size of former library and the lack of textbooks provided in the library. (3) The effort to optimize GLS werw by building a new and cozy library, optimizing the function of library, initiating a program called “One Student One Book”, providing reading corner, optimizing teacher and principal control toward GLS, and public involving in the level of goverment, education, parents, and school community.
