- Background : Katuk leaf extract contains flavonoids and polyphenols. MDA level can be reduced by these compound that act as antioxidant. MDA is one of the final products of lipid peroxidation. Cell damage can be caused by high level of MDA in the blood. Objective : To prove that MDA levels in blood of white rats (rattus norvegicus) exposed to cigarette smoke can be reduced by katuk leaf extract Method : Post test only control group design. Using 25 white rats divided randomly into 5 groups. Negative control, positive control, P1, P2, P3 exposed to cigarette smoke 3 cigarettes / day and given Katuk extract 300,550 and 1000 mg / 200grBW / day for 21 days. Data analysis used one way Anova test, Pearson correlation and linear regression. Results : There were significant differences between treatment groups with p = 0,000. Pearson correlation test obtained the direction of positive correlation with a power of 0.902. Linear regression test showed a value of 80.3%, meaning that the higher the dose of katuk leaf extract, the lower the MDA level. Conclusion : Katuk leaf extract can reduce MDA levels of white rats exposed to cigarette smoke.
