  • Background : Atherosclerosis is a progressive degenerative disease n the arteries that causes the formation of foam cells which proliferates into plaque on blood vessel walls, resulting in occlusion. Saba Banana Peel Extract (Musa paradisiaca formatypica) has high phenolic, antioxidant and vitamin activity. Phenolic compounds and flavonoids antioxidants act as protective scavengers against free radicals derived from oxygen and reactive oxygen species (ROS). Objective : To determine the effect of Saba Banana Peel Extract (Musa paradisiaca formatypica) towards the amount of foam cell on White Rat (Rattus norvegicus strain wistar) Aortic Arcus model of atherosclerosis. Methods: True Experimental, Post Test Only Control Group Design. Sample was divided into positive control group and three intervention groups of kepok banana peel extract treatment, with dose of 100, 200, 400 (mg/Kgbb/Days) each. Result and discussion: Statistical data analyses using normality and homogeneity test showed normal but non-homogeneous data, therefore anova test and post hoc tamhane test was performed. One way anova test showed significant difference (p=0,000) of average amount of foam cell between 2 groups. Tamhane post hoc test showed significant difference between K+ and intervention group 3. Regression test was determined by the value of adjusted R square which was 0.730 or 73%. Conclusion: The administration of Saba Banana Peel (Musa paradisiaca formatypica) extract had an effect towards the decrease of foam cell amount in the auorta arcus of male white rat (Rattus norvegicus strain wistar) model of atherosclerosis.
