- Knowledge and technology has recently developed rapidly in this globalization era. Moreover, it is demanded the use of material in appropriate as it has different characteristics. One of it is corrosion resistant. Corrosion is serious problem in material as it can cause major losses where among others cause leakage, explosion on pipe or pressured vessel in sequence of contamination or product quality and exploitation equipment such as oil and gas production especially pipe installation. Picture of microstructure surface used SEM test was researched and macrostructure picture as the comparison of physical corroded specimen. Two variables in this research is independent and dependent variable. Result of HCL concentration in ST42 steel corrosion rate shows that augmentation of HCL concentration can increase corrosion rate where SEM and macro photo represent the variation of corrosion rate and the higher concentration of corrosive solution and the faster of dyeing shows the higher corrosion rate.
