- This study focuses on studying student anxiety in learning English at Muhammadiyah 2 Vocational High School Malang. The purpose of this study are: (1) to describe the level of nervousness experienced by EFL students in learning (2) to describe the factors that trigger nervousness of EFL students in learning English and (3) to describe student strategies to reduce their nervousness in learning English. The method used in this study is qualitative research which is an appropriate method for analyzing and obtaining specific information about opinions and behaviors of certain subjects. The research subjects were 11th grade accounting students at Muhammadiyah 2 Vocational High School Malang. This study uses field notes observation and interview guidelines as instruments to collect data. The results showed that there were 2 types of nervousness experienced by students, namely nervousness based on character and nervousness based on the state of students. The factors that trigger student nervousness are personal and interpersonal factors, student trust, classroom management and language assessment. In addition, students use 3 strategies to reduce their nervousness, namely problem-focused solutions, emotional-focused solutions and avoidance-oriented solutions.
