- The correctional facility as a place for fostering the prisoners behaviour is expected that the function must be work properly, so the number of crimes in the community will be reduce as mandate in Law no. 12 of 1995 about population. The problem is how the violent motives conducted by prisoners and how the legal action of correctional facility in dealing with it. This research was conducted at correctional facility of class 1 Malang. Moreover, the research used empirical juridical approach. Data collection conducted by field research through interviews with the parties related to the title of this thesis. Based on the analysis of actual data that has been obtained by author, the factors that cause the occurance of violence conduced in correctional facility of class 1 Malang, there are: over capacity, the rooms are not adequate, the formation of ruling groups in prison where prisoners who have been longer in prison will be a ruler in the group, individual problems, and debt issues. In order to overcome this situation, there are two things that can be done. First, a preventive effort where the officers carry out strict control to the prisoners and the second is the government must be provide facilities for prisoners to engage them in the positive activities so that they are preoccupied with activity and will not do the crime. Therefore, suggestions from the author is the government must be increase the number of rooms in order to avoid shortage of room capacity, increase the number of officers for guards and for affective control, and also the officers must be hold activities among fellow inmates especially prisoners and new resident.
