  • Rhizobium sp. able to increase nitrogen fixation biologically, then can suppress the use of artificial fertilizers and improve the efficiency of fertilization. Rhizobium sp. is one of the mutualism symbiotic bacteria with legume that can bind nitrogen from the air of 100-300 kg N/ha in one season and leave some nitrogen for the next crop, so the bacteria is effective and beneficial for the legume farmer. Rhizobium sp. developed in the form of biofertilizer packaging products. Biodegradable fertilizer is available in liquid or solid. This study aims to determine the effective storage time of Rhizobium sp. as well as protect and maintain the quality of bacteria in different packaging. The research was conducted at Biotechnology Laboratory University of Muhammadiyah Malang, East Java, for ± 4 months starting from August until November 2017, this research use Split Plan Plot which arranged randomly. The main plot is the different time to store biodegradable Rhizobium sp. liquid and solid consisting of 6 levels, W2 = 2 weeks, W4 = 4 weeks, W6 = 6 weeks, W8 = 8 weeks, and W10 = 10 weeks, and W12 = 12 weeks. The subplot is a type of packing of Rhizobium sp. liquid and solid consisting of 4 levels, namely K1 = glass bottle (liquid), K2 = plastic bottle (liquid), K3 = plastic (solid), K4 = aluminum foil (solid).Based on research results of Rhizobium sp. with different shelf and packaging times occur very real interaction, saving time treatment has a very real effect and packaging treatment is also very real effect. Storage at room temperature for biofilms of Rhizobium sp. found that storage for 4 weeks showed the highest number of bacteria, the number of bacteria reached 33.6 x 1011 cfu / ml the amount of bacteria still high in storage time for 4 weeks in various packs, the number of bacteria began to decline in storage for 6 weeks. Packaging is best for storing bioavailable bacteria Rhizobium sp. is stored on a solid medium in a pack of aluminum foil.
