  • English article is a part of English grammar. Also, it is difficult enough for even the most advanced learners who have perfectly learned. They have not well in comprehension to differentiate the use of article. The article itself is consisting of definite and indefinite article. The aims of this study were to know what types of article error and to know which one is the most dominant type of error made by students of fifth semester of English Department at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The source of the data consists of 18 papers, which is the result of final test of writing by students of fifth semester of English Department at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The errors collected identified and classified based on three types of error. Those are omission, substitution, and addition. The findings showed that the most dominant error made by students are substitution, next is omission, and the last is addition. From the data, it can be concluded that substitution is the most dominant error made by students. From the finding above the writer suggest, the students study more about articles from English book to improve their ability in using articles and discuss their difficulties with the teacher, to get clearer explanation.
