  • Speaking is the productive skill in the oral communication which has to be mastered by the students. The researcher is interested in analyzing the speaking materials in Pathway to English textbook for the second grade of Senior High School published by Erlangga. Textbook is a teaching resource which presents the subject matter defined by the curriculum. The materials in the textbook must be appropriate with the standard competence and basic competence of a curriculum. The 2013 Curriculum is a curriculum that uses scientific approach in learning so that the students will experience, explore, and think by themselves. The purpose of this study is to describe the speaking materials in Pathway to English textbook and to know the appropriateness of speaking material with the 2013 Curriculum. This research used descriptive research design because it focused on finding and interpreting the speaking materials on the textbook instead of counting the statistic. The object of this study is English textbook entitled Pathway to English for second grade of Senior High School published by Erlangga (2014). The research instrument used by the researcher to collect the data was document. The result of this study shows that the speaking material of Pathway to English textbook published by Erlangga (2014) for the second grade of Senior High School are divided into four chapters. They are Chapter 1, 2, 3 and 4. The speaking materials in the textbook are appropriate with 2013 Curriculum based on two reasons. First, standard competence and basic competence are appropriate with the standard competence and basic competence of 2013 Curriculum. Second, the speaking material in the textbook are appropriate with the speaking material in English syllabus 2013 Curriculum and fulfills the standard competence, basic competence and achievement indicators.
