  • Potato (Solanum Tuberosum L.) is one of few vegetable plants that get priority in its development because it has high economic value compared to other vegetables. In Indonesia there are several centers of potato production, one of which is Batu City. There are some problems for potato farmers, such as wasted expenditure during planting and lack of knowledge of farmers about unsuitable land use risks for potato crops. One of the things that can be done to overcome this problem is to conduct a study on land suitability. The studyon land suitability aims to identify the suitability of land use for potato plants in Batu City which has been implemented for 2 months, starting from May until July 2017. The parameters used for this study are annual temperature, annual rainfall, soil texture, soil pH, erosion hazard, floods routine, slopes percentage, and land elevation. Based on the results of the study for land suitability, there are three classes of the actual suitability for potato crops in Batu City, namely S1 (very suitable) with an area of 8678.80 ha (43.59%), S2 (moderately suitable) with an area of 10476.71 ha (52.62%), and S3 (marginally Suitable) with an area of 753.23 ha (3.78%), but if appropriate land management is conducted on the basis of existing limiting variables, then a map of the potential land suitability of potato crops in Batu City will be obtained. The potential of land suitability for potato crops itself consists of two classes, namely S1 (very suitable) with the area of 13713.66 ha (68.88%) and S2 (moderately suitable) with an area of 6195.07 ha (31.12%).
