  • Strengthening character education is a government program to strengthen the character of learners. This program is an education movement under the responsibility of educational unit which is done through harmonization of the liver, taste, exercise, and thought. Strengthening educational program of this character has three bases, namely class-based, culture-based, and community-based. This study aims to describe how the implementation of strengthening character education in basic schools based on culture. This research is a descriptive research with qualitative approach. Data collection was done by three techniques, namely interview, observation, and documentation. The data obtained will be processed and analyzed using Miles and Huberman model that was done by three processed, namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing in the form of narrative descriptive and check the validity of data using triangulation Technique and triangulation of source until later will get the result of data analysis in accordance with focus and purpose of research. The results showed that 1) the application of strengthening character education in SDN Sumbersari 1 has implemented five religious, nationalist, independent, mutual assistance, and integrity well done through four activities: routine, spontaneous, exemplary, and conditioning activities 2) there are three obstacles in the implementation of the constraints of parents, teachers, and students, 3) the efforts taken in overcoming these obstacles was to change some policies to create harmony in the implementation of PPK, but it was also done giving advice and sanctions so that students did not make mistakes together, and the last by communicating openly to parents so that a good cooperation was established.
