Based on the climate and the geographical location, Butak mountain forests support the growing of fern. Until now there is still no publication about the types of fern in the region and research about source of biology learning. This study aims to discover what kind of fern that exist in the forest area of Butak Mountain in Batu city and utilize the results of research as a source of biology learning in the form of atlas draft of fern. This type of research used is descriptive research. The experiment was carried out in Butak mountain in Batu City ranges at the initial coordinates point S 7 ° 53 '28''+ E 112 ° 29' 47 '' until the final coordinate point S 7 ° 54 '18''+ E 112 ° 29' 19 ''. The sampling method of fern in this study using cruise methods. Measurement of environmental factors (abiotic) using Altimeter, GPS, Hygrometer, Luxmeter, and Soiltester. While the research result is used as the draft of fern in form of atlas. Based on the results of the research, there were 24 types of fern which are included in 2 classes. It was found 1 type of Lycopodinae class and 24 species of Filicinae class. Measurement of environmental factors (abiotic) obtained diverse results. In addition there were ferns that have different morphology of leaves to adapt to the environment. The results of the research were used as the material for drafting the atlas of fern.
