  • Long beans (Vigna sesquipedalis L.Fruwirth.) are one of the most potential leguminous crops to be developed. Indonesia is a long bean planting center that has wide genetic diversity. Characterization morphological is important to make the germplas of long bean plants more efficient. This study aims to study and characterize the morphological diversity of 12 long bean strains. This research was conducted from December 2017 to June 2018 located in Tegalgondo Village Karangploso Malang. The study was conducted by observing the parameters of quantitative observation in the form of leaf length, leaf width, leaf area, length of segment, and stem diameter. As well as identify the morphological properties of leaf color, leaf shape, leaf tip, base of leaf, leaf edge, symmetry, leaf bone shape, stem color, rod shape, stem type, flower color, flower position, pod color and color seed. Quantitative data were analyzed using Simple RAK and F test and then tested using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5% level. Qualitative data are presented descriptively.Characterization of long bean plants showed variations in the quantitative parameters of leaf length, leaf width, leaf area, and stem diameter. While the diversity shown in qualitative parameters consist of seed color, leaf color, leaf tip shape, leaf base, stem color, flower color and pod color.
