- Mathematics is one the subjects that supports the development of science and technology. However, many students consider math as a very difficult subject and even think that it is unpleasant, especially on the multiplication materials for grade II of elementary school. Throughout the time, the multiplication learning has been conducted only by writing the material on the board and then doing the calculation by using fingers. So that, a lot of students have difficulties in finding the right answer and there are many of them who still do not understand multiplication concept as a recurring summation. Hence, the researcher develops the abacus media for multiplication in this research in order to (1) Develop abacus media for multiplication on the multiplication learning for grade II of elementary school, 2) Know the validity, effectiveness, and attractiveness of the abacus media for multiplication on the multiplication learning for grade II of elementary school. The type of this research wass research and development (RnD) by using ADDIE model as the research procedure that consist of five stages namely; (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation). The research was conducted in grade II of SDN Purwantoro 2 Malang and followed by 27 students. On the analysis stage, interview and observation employed as the data collection techniques while questionnaires and documentation used in the development and implementation stage. The interview sheets, observation sheets, validation questionnaires, and student response questionnaires were used as the instrument of the data collection. In analyzing the data, the researcher used qualitative and quantitative data analysis. The results of this study show that the abacus media for multiplication is very feasible to be used as a learning media on the multiplication materials for grade II of elementary school with valid criteria obtained from the validation questionnaire with 98.57% and material validation resulting at 94%. It can be stated that the media is interesting since many students are enthusiastic to use the media and it is also proved by the students’ response resulting at 90%. This media is also effectively used as a learning media as it can help students to understand the concept of multiplication as a recurring sum, practice students’ ability in calculation, and find the right answers, this is indicated by the obtained value from the learning experts of 86.36%.
