- In reality, character value is not as easy as imagined to be built towards the students. In building the character, program activities and strategy are required to be constructed by the teacher. Two of characters which are regarded as the most significant character to be built in elementary school students are religious and social-care character. This research is aimed to: (1) Describe the program activities which is made and held toward the lower grade students of SDN Sumbersari 1 Malang in building the religious and social-care character, (2) Describe the teacher strategies in building the religious and social-care character toward the lower grade students of SDN Sumbersari 1 Malang. This research was applying qualitative approach with descriptive qualitative design, because the data was presented in the form of words. Furthermore, the data was obtained from the headmaster, the teachers and the lower grade students. In addition, this research was conducted during 3 weeks on 27 February until 21 March 2018. The research findings showed that (1) The program activities in building the religious and social-care character was taken from the school vision and mission, such as: conducting prayer in congregation and also social and environmental care movements, (2) The teacher strategies in building the religious and social-care characters were conducting routine activities, spontaneous activities (giving warning), exemplary and environmental conditioning. Finally, the research findings can be used by the headmaster of SDN Sumbersari 1 Malang to review the success of program in building religious and social-care character. In addition, the research finding also can be used to see the success of teacher strategies in building religious and social-care character, it the strategies are unsuccessful, the teacher can revise up the strategy that has been done.
