  • This research was based on todays' Bahasa variation which is famed among Indonesian youth called Alay language. This variation is definitely affecting the other residents especially those who are learning Bahasa. In a nutshell, foreign university students who are called BIPA students would have problems caused by Alay language. Therefore, this study aims to know what problems of Alay language are encountered by BIPA students as well as the solutions to at least reduce those problems. This study is using descriptive qualitative research design. The subjects of this study are 24 BIPA students of Muhammadiyah University at Malang which were taken from 3 levels of the class; elementary, intermediate, and advance level of BIPA students. Furthermore, there were three research instruments used in this research; questionnaire, interview guide, and observation field notes. The findings showed that there were three major problems of Alay language faced by BIPA students, are; (1) inhibition of communication, which 57.9% of 19 BIPA students confessed to havedifficulty in communicating with Alay language. Next, (2) bahasa difficulty consideration, which 47.7% of 19 BIPA students admitted to feel the difficulty of bahasa after finding out Alay language is part of it. Last, (3) difficulty concentrating in learning, which 31.5% of 19 BIPA students claimed unable to concentrate in learning when Alay language is into the learning process. In addition, the solutions which had been found are; (1) learning Alay language, (2) noting and memorizing Alay vocabularies, and (3) having Alay language dictionary.
