- Teaching speaking is not an easy task for the teacher because speaking is a skill that needs to be developed and practiced independently. In teaching speaking, the teacher should make several ways to make the students understand and be able to speak correctly. One of the ways that can be used by the teacher in teaching speaking is selecting appropriate media that can help the teacher to convey the materials in teaching speaking. By using media, the teacher can convey the materials easily and it helped the teacher to reach the goal of the teaching process easily. In this study, the researcher used descriptive qualitative as the research design and presented the data in the form of descriptive analysis. The data was collected by using interview and observation. The subject of this study was the English teacher at SMA Negeri 2 Malang. The objective of this study was to explain kinds of media that were used by the teacher in teaching speaking for the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Malang, the problems faced by the teacher in teaching using media and the way the teacher overcome the problems in using media in teaching speaking. The study found that the teacher used three kinds of media, which were audio-visual media that consisted of video, visual media that consisted of LCD, pictures, and coursebook, and computer-based media that consisted of Cambridge dictionary, Comic Cartoon Maker and Text Aloud. Unfortunately, the teacher faced several problems in teaching speaking using those kinds of media. However, the teacher had her own way to overcome the problems. Based on the result of the study, the researcher suggested several recommendations for the teacher and the next researcher. For the teacher, the teacher should vary the media that are used in teaching speaking. For the the next researchers, this study can be used as a reference about the use of media in teaching speaking.
