  • In current study, there are three research objectives namely, (1) to describe how the implementation of the Social Constructivist Approach in teaching English at SMP Tazkia International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) Malang, (2) to identify the problems encountered by English teacher in implementing the Social Constructivist Approach, (3) to discover the ways teacher settles the problems which is encountered while implementing the Social Constructivist Approach. In conducting this study, the researcher used qualitative research design with case study research type. The subject of this study was an English teacher at seventh grade of male class in SMP Tazkia International Islamic Boarding School (IIBS) Malang. In collecting the data, the researcher used two kind of techniques namely, observation and interview. The result of this study showed that (1) in teaching English, the teacher implemented Social Constructivist Approach by utilising Peer Tutoring and Cooperative Learning strategies in order to prompt studentsÂ’ interaction, (2) while implementing the approach, the teacher faced three sort of problems specifically, limited time, studentsÂ’ physical problem, and studentsÂ’ diversity problem, and (3) for settling the limited time problem, the teacher was helped by Language Development Program, while for studentsÂ’ physical problem, the teacher asked the sleepy students to take ablution or wudhu and gave them a motivation and for studentsÂ’ diversity problem, it is settled by the some programs provided inside and outside the classroom. At the end, the teacher should to be more creative in using teaching strategy in order to encourage students to be active in the classroom and be involved in the pair or group work.
