- Every student has different perceptions toward subject given by the lecturer. Their perception could be positive or negative because of some factors and dimensions such as knowledge, expectations and evaluation. Someone who has a positive interpretation in evaluating something would have positive perception, or vice versa. Moreover, knowledge of studentsÂ’ perception toward the subject should be studied and considered by the lecturer to understand and facilitate the studentsÂ’ expectation. This study was focused on the two problems that is: (1) the studentsÂ’ perceptions toward Business English subject at English Language Education Department in University of Muhammadiyah Malang, (2) the lecturerÂ’s response after knowing the students perception. The purposes of this research are: (1) to find out the students perception toward Business English elective subject at English Language Education Department in University of Muhammadiyah Malang, (2) to know the lecturerÂ’s response after knowing the students perception. This research used a mixed research design. The population are Business English students in academic year 2013 at English Language Education Department in University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Then, simple random sampling is used as the technique of sampling in this research. The sample was 26 Business English students. Then, the instruments used in this research were questionnaire and interview guide. In analyzing the data, the researcher gave score based on Likert scale to the studentsÂ’ answer of questionnaire, calculating the mean score and classifying the criteria of assesment. Based on the finding of this research, the mean score of studentÂ’s opinion was 3.81, the mean score of factors that influence perception was 3.96, the mean score of dimension of knowledge was 3.85, the mean score of dimension of expectation was 4.13 and the mean score of dimension of evaluation was 3.95. Therefore, it could be categorized as positive perception and it could be concluded that the studentsÂ’ perception toward Business English elective subject was positive. Moreover, it was also supported by the data of interview which showed the lecturesÂ’ respons.
