- Realia often appear in many cooking books since each culture possess their typical culinary and different terms of ingredients, cooking tools, or even measurements. Virtually, cooking books are rich of realia. Nevertheless, there has been little work related to the realia investigation in cooking books. This research aims to: 1) identify the typologies of realia in Mika Hadi’s cooking book entitled “Chef @ Home,” and 2) analyze the translation strategies of realia applied in Mika Hadi’s cooking book entitled “Chef @ Home”. Qualitative approach and content analysis technique were applied in this research since it was designed to dig information about the typologies of realia and the strategies used by the translator in translating realia in Mika Hadi's cooking book entitled "Chef @ Home". Besides, this research employed validity expert to gain the trustworthiness of data. The book was written in two languages, Bahasa Indonesia and English versions. The data were taken from the ingredients and the cooking method. The investigation resulted in 75 realia, 16 of them were included in unit realia and the other 58 were included in socio-cultural realia. The six translation strategies of realia by Grit and one additional strategy by Hartono were detected in the cooking book. Adaptation/approximation became the most dominant strategy used by the translator with the total of 30 realia and omission was the least strategy used with only two realia.
