- Vocabulary is one of language components. It is a series of words within a language that an individual can understand when they are listening or reading and use when they are writing or speaking. Vocabulary is very important in reading comprehension. The students with more acquisition of vocabulary understand the text better than those who lack vocabulary. In this case, the researcher wanted to know whether or not there is a correlation between the studentsÂ’ vocabulary proficiency and their comprehension in reading. In short, this study intended to investigate whether or not the higher vocabulary proficiency the students have, the better the students comprehend the texts in reading. This study was conducted in correlational research to determine whether or not the higher vocabulary the students have, the better the students comprehend the text in reading of the tenth grade students at MAN 2 Kota Batu. The sample of this study was X-Bahasa class with 30 students. The objective tests (true or false and multiple choice) were distributed to collect the data. In addition, the researcher used SPSS with PearsonÂ’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient formula to analyze the data results collected. The research findings showed the r_xy is higher than rtable (0.62 > 0.46). Based on the result, it revealed that the alternative hypothesis (Hi) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. In conclusion, the analysis results confirmed that there was a positive correlation between the studentsÂ’ vocabulary proficiency and their comprehension in reading and it was categorized into high positive correlation.
