  • English is an important skill for communication in this era of globalization, but it is undeniable that writing in English is difficult for learners. Anxiety is a students who learn English, especially in writing. Obstacle which is faced by the Accordingly, this research specifically aims at measuring the level of writing anxiety, determining the most dominant type of writing anxiety, and identifying the several main factors that result in English Foreign Language Writing Anxiety at the Third Semester of English Language Education Department in University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This research was conducted at the Third Semester of English Language Education Department in University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The participants were 35 students from two classes (A and E) from 10 classes (A-J). The students from A class were 17 and the students from F class were 18. This research typically employed mixed method. The data was collected by utilizing Second Language Writing Anxiety Inventory (SLWAI) by Cheng (2004) and Causes of Writing Anxiety Inventory (CWAI) by Reza and Jafari (2014) and structured interview. The results of this research indicated that high level of writing anxiety at the third semester students with cognitive anxiety is the common type. Linguistic difficulties, insufficient writing practice, and fear of negative comment became the main factors that caused in Foreign Language Writing Anxiety at the Third Semester of English Language Education Department in University of Muhammadiyah Malang.
