- The research intends to find evidence by whether or not mind mapping can improve English writing skill of descriptive text at the eight grade of SMPN 6 Kota Pasuruan. This research used quasi experimental method. Quasi experimental is design where the researcher is able to control the treatment but is not able to randomly assign the subject of the treatment. The research was carried out in two classes, they are the controlled class and the experimental class. The data were gathered through tests which were delivered into the pre-test and the post-test. The result of the research showed that the mind mapping is effective to improve students English writing skill of descriptive text at eight grade of SMPN 6 Pasuruan. The data computation shows that p-value 0.000 is lower than α 0.05 at the confidence interval 95%, the lowest score of the experimental class is 15 and the control class is 1, while the highest score of the experimental class is 45 and the control class is 19. Meanwhile, the mean of the score in the experimental class is 29.28 and the control class is 6.24. it means that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted because calculation at the data showed p-value independent t test score 0.00 that is lower than error degree (α) 0.05 its make null hypotesis (H0) rejected and if p-value gained score is higher than error of degree (α) 0.05 the null hypothesis (H0) is accepted and alternative hypothesis (H1) is rejected.
