  • This study was focused on the English department studentsÂ’ interest in choosing Business English course. Therefore, it had two purposes, namely: (1) to know the factors which make the sixth semester students interested in choosing Business English as their elective course and (2) to get information about what the expectation of the sixth semester students of English department in attending the Business English class. The method used in this study was quantitative research. For the instrument, the researcher used a questionnaire to know the factors which make students interested in choosing Business English course and their expectation in attending Business English class. The population of this study was the sixth semester students of English department who had taken English Business course. The findings showed that there were two factors which make students interested in choosing Business English course: intrinsic and extrinsic factors. The intrinsic factor covers: (1) the students choose Business English course because of their own desire; (2) they choose the course due to their wish to improve their skill in Business English; (3) they are aware that the course is very important for reaching their ambition; (4) they choose the course because it is their favorite course; (5) they think that the course is the easiest course compared to the other elective course; and (6) they think that the course is more enjoyable than the other elective courses. The extrinsic factor covers: (1) they choose Business English because their favorite lecturer teaches this course; (2) their score of the course is better than of the other elective courses; (3) they chose this course because they just follow their friends who take the same course; and (4) they chose the course because they wanted to follow their parentsÂ’ obsession. Meanwhile, there were two factors about the expectations of students in attending Business English class: intrinsic and extrinsic factors. The intrinsic factor covers: (1) studentsÂ’ self-esteem; (2) studentsÂ’ self-fulfillment; (3) studentsÂ’ self-determination; (4) studentsÂ’ relief; (5) studentsÂ’ attributtion; and (6) studentsÂ’ expectation. The extrinsic factor covers: (1) studentsÂ’ reinforcement; (2) stydentsÂ’ reward; (3) studentsÂ’ incentive; and (4) studentsÂ’ punishment. From the result of the questionnaire, the mean score by the students in intrinsic interest was 23 and the mean score for extrinsic interest was 14.9. Moreover, the mean score by students in intrinsic expectation was 22 and the mean score for extrinsic expectation was 14.
