  • Collocation is study of combination of words, learning collocation itself is not easy as just combining one word with another word. People need to learn the patterns of the collocation and the words which have appropriate combination with another word, phrases and clauses. It is expected that by learning collocation it might improve their English to be better. This study aims to reveal; (1) The English collocations used by the two main characters of the novel entitled “The Chronicle of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” by C.S Lewis, (2) The kinds and patterns of English collocation used by the main characters of the novel entitled “The Chronicle of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” by C.S Lewis. This study used descriptive qualitative research design. The researcher used two instruments to collect the data; human instrument and document. Moreover, the document itself is The Chronicle of Narnia “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” novel by C.S Lewis. Based on the data findings, this study revealed some kinds and patterns of Grammatical Collocation “GC 1 (Noun + Preposition), GC 2 (Noun + To Infinitive), GC 4 (Preposition + Noun), GC 5 (Adjective + Preposition), GC 6 (Adjective + To-Infinitive), GC 7 (Adjective + That Clause), and GC 8; GC 8D/d (Verb + Preposition + Object/Verb Object + Preposition + Object), GC 8E (Verb + To-Infinitive), GC 8F (Verb + Infinitive Without To), GC 8G (Verb + Verb-ing), GC 8H (Transitive Verb + Object + To-Infinitive), GC 8I (Verb + Object + Infinitive Without To), GC 8K (Transitive Verb + Possessive (Pronoun/Noun) + Gerund), GC 8L (Verb + That-Noun Clause), GC 8N (Transitive Verb + Object + Adjective / Past Participle / Noun / Pronoun), GC 8Q (Verb + Interrogative Words), GC 8R (Dummy “it” + Transitive Verb + To-Infinitive or That Clause), GC 8S (Intransitive Verb + Noun/Adjective)” and Lexical Collocation “LC 1 (Verb + Noun/Pronoun or Prepositional Phrase), LC 3 (Adjective + Noun), LC 5 (Noun + Noun), LC 6 (Adverb + Adjective), LC 7 (Verb + Adverb)”. In addition, the researcher also found an English collocation “in between” as a unique finding which exists in the BBI Combinatory Dictionary of English, but it is not match with all the available patterns.
