  • Keyword : Teaching English, Teaching Listening, Textbook. Listening is the process oof receiving, attending, and assigning meaning to aural and visual stimuli. In order to improve the studentsÂ’ listening achievement, the materials should be presented by using an interesting technique. In this present study, the researcher used a textbook “When English Rings A Bell“ as a media in teaching listening for seventh grade students. The purpose is to investigate which activities of “When English Rings A Bell”show better result for seventh grade junior high school at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Malang. In conducting this study the researcher employeed descriptive research design. It was used to explain the teaching technique used by the teacher in listening class at SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Malang. In collecting the data, the researcher conducted observation and interview the teacher and the students. The result of this study showed that there were two techniques used by the teacher, those are dictation and storytelling. The students generally had positive response toward the teaching technique used by the teacher in listening. Moreover, these activities could evoke the studentsÂ’ enthusiasm and could help them to increase their other sills. In conclusion, the listening activities in the textbook of “When English Rings A Bell” based on the 2013 curriculum for junior high school students that show better result are dictation and storytelling.
