- Keyword : (cross-cultural conflict, immigrant, prejudice, stereotype, “crash” movie) Cross-cultural conflict is a conflict occuring between individuals or social groups which are separated by cultural boundaries. Cultural conflict is likely to emerge when rules and values of one cultural group are substantially different from another, and members of the cultures some in contact with each other. In this study, the writer tried to figure out the cross-cultural immigrant conflicts faced by the main characters, the causes of cross-cultural immigrant conflicts, and the lessons that can be learned from the cross-cultural immigrant conflict happend in Paul Haggis’ movie “Crash”. Qualitative research design was used as a research method in this study. The approach used was objective approach, because this study focused on cultural conflicts faced by the main characters in movie “Crash”. To collect the data, the writer used document or artifact analysis because the data of the study was a movie. The activities to collect the data were watching the whole movie, identifying and classifying in accordance with the formulation of the research problems, analyzing the dialogue, selecting the data that deals with the research problems, and capturing the scenes that contain cross-cultural conflicts. Then, the data was analyzed by using the theories of Levine and Adelman (1982) and Avruch (1998). Based on the research findings, the writer found that the cross-cultural conflicts faced by the main characters were language, ethnicity, and profession. The causes of the cross-cultural conflicts were prejudice and stereotype. The last was, the lessons which could be learned from the cross-cultural conflict happened were the important of English, patience to deal with prejudice and stereotype, improving more information about other ethnics and anger can worsen the situation.
