  • Keyword : Non linguistic problems, third semester, listening comprehension In learning English, there are four language skills that are listening, speaking, reading, and writing must be learned by students. One of the important aspects in learning English is listening. Listening comprehension is not only hearing what others say correctly but also students must comprehend and give response. In fact, listening comprehension can become a difficult subject to understand for students. The research design used in this study was descriptive quantitative because the researcher tried to describe the studentÂ’s problems and studentÂ’s strategies to solve the problems in listening comprehension course faced by the third semester students of English Department at University of Muhammadiyah Malang by using numbers in clarifying data. In collecting the data, the researcher used the questionnaire and the interview. The finding showed that 61% students assumed that the learning listening comprehension was difficult. Firstly, most students had problems in non linguistic related to teacher that are teacher does not give students opportunity to show their ability and teacher does not come to the class; teaching material that are students have problem to answer the assignment of filling in the blank and no visual such as video or picture in conversation material; teaching method that is students do not know methods are used by teacher, so that students feel sifficult in listening comprehension; and teaching learning facilities that have poor sound quality of speaker and headset and there is no book. Secondly, studentÂ’s strategies to solve the problem of listening comprehension related to the metacognitive, that is students learn listening comprehension in class and their home; the cognitive, that are students choose listen by using video and picture and know the keyword to solve the problem in learning listening; and most strategies experienced by students is socio affective, that are cooperative interaction with classmate and asking teacher to solve their problems in listening comprehension.
