It is proven that writing skill is needed in education and workplace as a way to express ideas. Therefore, to obtain the maximum outcomes in writing, the students need a certain method in the writing learning process. In this case, the researcher would apply the group investigation method in the writing learning process that might create an active and collaborative group work in determining the studentsÂ’ learning and performance. In short, this study is aimed at responding the following question: Is there significant relationship between the studentsÂ’ learning by using the group investigation method and studentsÂ’ performance in writing English essay? This study was conducted in correlational study to investigate the relationship of studentsÂ’ learning by using group investigation method and studentsÂ’ performance in writing English essay at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The sample of this study was class D with 21 students of 5th semester from English Language Education Department. The questionnaires of studentsÂ’ learning by using group investigation method and studentsÂ’ performance was developed to measure it. In addition, Quantitative approach was used to analyze the result using SPSS version 21 with Pearson Product Moment correlation formula. The research findings showed the rxy is higher than rtable (0.600 > 0.433). Based on that result, it revealed that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. In brief, the analysis results confirmed that the studentsÂ’ learning by using group investigation method had a significant relationship with studentsÂ’ performance in writing English essay and it was categorized into high correlation.
