  • Keyword : Morphology, Syntax, Writing Morphology and Syntax are essential components of learning languages. Morphology deals with word structure while syntax deals with phrase or sentence structure. This study was aimed to analyze the types of morphological and syntactic errors in studentsÂ’ writing, the dominant error and the causes of errors themselves. This study was also taking place in the Muhammadiyah Malang University. Qualitative research design was engaged in this study. The instruments used were the document and interview. The document was taken from studentsÂ’ homework and unstructured interview was conducted to gain the information about the causes of errors. The findings of this study revealed that morphological errors cover: (1) Plural errors, (2) Possessive errors, (3) The third person singular verb errors, (4) Regular past form errors. On the other hand, syntactic errors cover: (1) Auxiliaries errors (2) Conjunctions errors, (3) Prepositions errors (4) SVO Patterns errors, (5) Articles and (6) Errors in tenses. Those all errors are in the field of addition, omission and misformations errors. The dominant error found in Morphological error was regular past form error while syntactic error was in auxiliary error. Furthermore, this study also found that the causes of errors made by students were Interlingual transfer, Intralingual transfer and Context of Learning.
