- Keyword : Communication Strategies, English Teacher In teaching and learning process, communication becomes one important thing to have by teachers when they want to present the materials the students. One of the strategies which are used by the seventh graders English teachers at SMPN 3 Batu when they want to present the materials to the student is communication strategies. Based on the phenomena above, this research wanted to gain more information about how the English teachers applied the communication strategies and the ways the teachers solved the problems in applying communication strategies. This research was conducted at SMPN 3 Batu. The subject in this research are two English teachers of 7th graders at SMPN 3 Batu. The researcher conducted descriptive research. The data comprised how the English Teachers applied the communication strategies for seventh graders, the difficulties in using communication strategies, the ways the teachers solve the problems in applying communication strategies. The data were collected through interview and observation. The result in this research showed that the teachers used four kinds of strategies which are language switch, comprehension check, asking for clarification and asking for confirmation and support them by using realia and gestures. The first teacher applied realia and gestures to support the communication strategies in teaching and learning process; while the second teacher merely used realia. The difficulty of using communication strategies is that the seventh grade students still did not know what the teacher mean and said in teaching English. To solve the problems, the first teacher used repetition and dictionary; while the second teacher only used dictionarty. Based on the result in this research, by using communication strategies, the English teachers of Junior High School feel easier to communicate with the students in delivering their English material. The English teachers are suggest to always develop their teaching skills and should be more creative to design the concept of teaching activity. For the further researcher, it is also suggested to conduct the study about the effectiveness of communication strategy used by English teachers in teaching English to junior high school, senior high school, or elementary school.
