  • Keyword : Penguasaaan Kosakata. English has an important role since it is an international language. There are many countries use English as their second language, in Indonesia English is treated as foreign language. In learning language, students should understand vocabulary. Vocabulary mastery is very important to be achieved by the students because it can support their understanding of four English skills.This study focused on the problem faced by the English teacher in teaching English vocabulary in reading skill at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Malang. The purposes of this study were: (1) To know the teacherÂ’s problems in teaching English vocabulary in reading skill at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Malang, and (2) To know the teacherÂ’s ways to solve the problems in teaching English vocabulary in reading skill..The research design of this study was qualitative research design. The subjects of this study werethe English teacher of the English teacher who taught the first year students at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Malang. Meanwhile, in collecting the data, the researcher used two instruments. They were observation and interview. Based on the research findings, the English teacherfound some difficulties. They were (1) lack of studentsÂ’ interest, (2) classroom management, and (3) teacherÂ’s pronunciation. Moreover, the teacher solves the problems by picture, drawing attention, showing meaning and changing studentsÂ’ seat formation. Besides, the studentsÂ’ ability were different to each other so when the teacher explained material to student, some of them were understand and the others are not. However, the teacher tried to get studentsÂ’ attention by several techniques such as using picture and giving question related to material.
