- Keyword : Scientific approach, EYL course, student teacher, young learner. Having appropriate approach while doing the teaching and learning activity inside the classroom will help the educators to encourage and keep the studentsÂ’ motivation towards learning. In this case, 2013 curriculum has adopted a fantastic approach, called as scientific approach. Through scientific approach, the students are required to be an active thinker and communicative learner. In this regard, this researcher focused on analyzing the scientific approach used by student teachers in 5th grade of English for Young Learner Course at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This research used descriptive qualitative design because it was intended to describe the phenomenon of the implementation of scientific approach used by student teachers in 5th grade of EYL Course at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Additionally, observation and document analysis used as the research instruments. The findings of this research showed that scientific approach had been applied in 5th grade of English for Young Learner Course. However, some of the students teachers often forgot to implement the observing, questioning, and communicating steps. Although, those steps were very important and could not be neglected by the students teachers. Additionally, while implementing the questioning process, some of the students were not active. Teachers still played dominant role in this step. Most of the students were just responding to the teacherÂ’s questions and very reluctant to ask more. Furthermore, in its implementation the 5th grade students teachers implemented the scientific approach in orderly. Thus, due to the limited amount of the time, some of the 5th grade students teachers were not succeed while implementing the scientific approach in English for young learners course at University of Muhammadiyah Malang.
