  • Keyword : Teaching Vocabulary, Scrabble board game This study was intended to explain the implementation of scrabble board game to teach vocabulary at the eleventh grade students of Muhammadiyah Senior High School 3 Batu. It was conducted based on the fact that the teaching and learning process in the classroom was in passive condition. Furthermore, it was also aimed to examine the teacherÂ’s reason of using scrabble board game. Teaching English using scrabble board game was chosen by the English teacher to facilitate and help students to achieve the aim of teaching learning process. This research used qualitative research design to investigate the implementation of scrabble board game and the teacherÂ’s reasons of using that game in teaching vocabulary. The subject in this study was the teacher who taught English using scrabble board game. The data was collected from interview and observation. This study found that the teacher applied scrabble board game using several steps, they were, (1) preparing the 3x3 meters square rack of scrabble board and asking the students to make four small groups consisting of four students, (2) reading the rules of playing that game to the students, (3) asking the students to take eight letters for each group randomly before playing the game, (4) putting scrabble board on the floor which had been given a clue ‘wonderfulÂ’, (5) asking the first group to continue by creating a word by those eight letters then count and announce the score, (6) asking the students to find the meaning of that word and it would be continued by the next group until they could not create word again, (7) counting and announcing the score to find out the winner of the game, (8) discussing about the letters which were left. Next, the teacherÂ’s reasons of using scrabble board game in teaching vocabulary were scrabble board game was interesting, challenging and it seemed like a competition so that by giving this game, the students could present the vocabulary maximally.
