- The research aimed to find out whether obligation of food sector had higher fluctuation than cigarette sector obligation. Population in this research were food and cigarette companies listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2009 to 2010. In this research, sampling technique used sensus method or total sample, which is a method made all research object as data analysis. Data source in this research consisted of 2 food sector obligations and 2 cigarette sector obligations. Data analysis used duration method to find out obligation price change. If the result was shifted between food and cigarette sectors. Hypotheses found that Macaulay duration and modification duration comparison of cigarette obligation in 2009 and 2010 was higher than Macaulay and modification duration of food & beverage obligations. According to data analysis, there found that in 2009 and 2010, cigarette sector had higher price fluctuation than food sector measured by Macaulay and Modification durations. Macaulay duration of cigarette sector obligation along 2009 period was 4,713 while Macaulay duration of food sector was 4,606. Macaulay Duration of cigarette sector along 2010 period was 4,701 while Macaulay duration of food sector was 4,599. Modification duration value in 2009 and 2010 in cigarette sector obligation was higher than food sector. Research found that whether Macaulay or modification duration sector showed shifted fluctuation higher than food sector obligation. According to research and discussion done there could be concluded that in 2009 and 2010, fluctuation price in cigarette industry listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange was higher and more fluctuate than food industry sector. The condition could be proven that in 2009 and 2010 Macaulay and Modification durations in cigarette industry was higher than food industry sector. According to the result, hypotheses stated in this research was rejected.
