- Language is the most effective tool of communication to deliver the information to our society. Through language, people can express their ideas, mind, feeling and knowledge. Language can be divided into two forms. They are oral or spoken and written language. In bilingual and multilingual society, there are two kinds of code, they are code switching and code mixing. Code mixing is the mix of two codes or languages together without change of topic in single utterance. It means that the speakers insert some pieces or elements of another language while using a certain language. Bukan Empat Mata Program is one of the famous talk show programs which is broadcasted on TRANS 7 Television channel. The presenters and the guest stars mix their languages, Indonesian and English in the conversation. This study focused on: (1) The code mixings found in Bukan Empat Mata Program on TRANS 7 Television Channel and (2) the kinds of code mixing found in Bukan Empat Mata Program on TRANS 7 Television Channel. The descriptive qualitative was used in this study. The instruments or the data collection methods used were direct observation and document. The writer acted as non-participant observer and the writer used document, namely visual recording. To collect the data, the way to do observation was through recording by using hand phone then transferring to the laptop in order to get the valid data. The data source was the original conversation among the presenters and the guest stars of Bukan Empat Mata Program on TRANS 7 Television Channel. Having conducted the analysis on the basis of the given procedure, it was found that there were two languages, English and Indonesian together used by the presenters and the guest stars in their utterances in the conversations and there were two kinds of code mixing, situational and conversational codes mixing based on WardhaughÂ’s theory. The presenters and the guest stars used situational code mixing to make the program more interesting and enjoyable. They also used conversational code mixing to make the conversation in Bukan Empat Mata program more alive. Those kinds of code mixing in Bukan Empat Mata program were used in relaxed and informal condition.
