- Vocabulary is an important part of language components because it is one of language components that link four skills of English such as speaking, listening, reading and writing. As a teacher, we have to select various and effective teaching techniques to help the students in practicing words actively, so the students will enrich words maximally. The purpose of this study is to know and describe vocabulary teaching techniques used by native and non native speaker teacher in teaching vocabulary for Real English class students of the English First course in Malang. A descriptive qualitative research is used as the design of this study to collect all information to answer the problems. The subjects of this study were native and non native English speaker teachers who teach in Real English class of English First course in Malang. The data were obtained through observation and interview and were presented descriptively and analyzed based on the related theory. The result of this study shows that there are various techniques that were applied by native and non native speaker teachers in teaching vocabulary. Most of techniques that were used by a native speaker teacher were different with techniques that were used by non native speaker teacher. The most frequently teaching techniques applied by native and non native speaker teacher were also different. The non native speaker teacher used game technique frequently and he applied a different game in every meeting. In other hand, the native speaker teacher used antonyms/synonyms technique frequently. Both of the teachers select the same technique in teaching vocabulary, that technique is antonyms/synonyms technique. However, the way in applying this technique is quite different.
