  • English as international language is used for communication in all aspect in daily life. One of the important aspects of English is speaking skill which is used to communicate with other people. Learning speaking is not easy for some students. Therefore, teacher has to facilitate the students by giving various teaching technique. One of them is using guessing game in teaching speaking. Guessing game is a game in which someone knows something and the others have to guess some kind of information, such as a word or an object. The purpose of this research is to know how teaching speaking using guessing game is able to improve studentsâ€TM ability to speak English well. This research applied Classroom Action Research in two cycles. The subject of this research was seven graders of SMP Negeri 1 Galis which consist of 33 students. The instrument used in this study was speaking test and observation. The result of this study showed that the implementation of guessing game in teaching speaking improved the studentsâ€TM ability to speak English well. It could be seen from the studentsâ€TM average score for each cycle that showed the increasing from 49.5 in cycle I to 65.2 in cycle II. The last result has reached the minimal standard of the school. Therefore, it could be concluded that the use of guessing game can improve the studentsâ€TM speaking ability.
