- Writing is the most important skills that can be mastered by students. By learning writing, the students learn to catch the most important information they get from reading a book or listening to the speaker and finally express it in form of written. In teaching writing especially in procedure text, the teacher can use picture as a media. The objective of this study was to know how using picture improve seventh grade studentsâ€TM ability in writing procedure text. In this study, the writer used Classroom Action Research (CAR). CAR is the application of fact finding to practical problem solving in a social situation with a view to improving the quality of action within it, involving the collaboration and co-operation of researcher, practitioners and students. The subject of this study was seventh grade students and the setting was SMP Muhammadiyah 03 Bangsri Jepara. The instrument used to collect the data was observation and test. The results of this study showed that using picture improved studentsâ€TM ability in writing procedure text. The researcher used 2 cycles in finding the problem of the study. In cycle 1, many students had lack of vocabulary and lack of idea. The average score for pretest was 57.36. On the other hand, the average score of posttest in cycle 1 was 63.57. While, in cycle 2 in the posttest, the students got the score were 72.36. Using picture also increased the studentsâ€TM participation, enthusiasm and attention to the lesson because the picture showed the real things to describe. Therefore, the students understood the material and get many ideas through pictures easily.
