- Teaching and learning process in Indonesia is usually based on a certain curriculum. Curriculum is not only a set of courses but also all activities and experiences that students have in school. One basic to curriculum development is syllabus. Syllabus is a set of important documents for teachers because syllabus is a map in teaching learning process. This study is intended to describe the problems of implementing English syllabus faced by teachers and the solutions used by English teachers in SMU Negeri 1 Ngoro Mojokerto. The study used a descriptive qualitative research design because the researcher wanted to describe the current status of the problems. The current status of the problems in this research was the problems of implementing English syllabus faced by teachers and the solutions used by English teachers in SMU Negeri 1 Ngoro Mojokerto. The researcher took two English teachers who teach in the second grade students. One teacher (A) taught in XI IPA 1, XI IPS 1, XI IPS 2, XI IPS 3, and the second teacher (B) taught in XI IPA 2 and XI IPS 4. The instruments used in this study were observation, interview, and documentation. The result of the study showed that both of two English teachers had some problems in implementing their own English syllabus in teaching learning process. Those problems were studentsâ€TM motivation was low, limited reading sources, time allotment is not enough, and the facilities are not completed yet. And the solutions used by teachers to solve are by giving motivation to the students, asking to learn English deeply, making single presentation before Monday ceremony, looking for other sources, giving homework or assignment for the students to increase their English ability, choosing some material which were suitable with the studentsâ€TM ability, repeating the material, using tape recorder to present listening material in front of the class.
