This study was focused on the use of code switching in Indonesian pop songs to investigate whether the use of code switching in Indonesian pop songs could improve vocabulary ability to first grade at MTs N Kota Batu or not. This study used a quasi experimental research. The samples were VII E class which consisted of 36 students as control group and VII C which consisted of 37 students as experimental group. To get the data, the writer used pretest and post test for both experimental and control group. To analyze the data the writer used Analysis of Variance by using SPSS for Windows verse 16.00. Based on the result of computation, mean of pretest score of experimental group was 58.54 and the control group was 58.47. While the posttest score of experimental group was 77.68 and the control group was 69.33. The increasing mean score of the experimental was greater than the control group. The score of F-ratio was 7.952, the level of significance was 0.05, and the degree of freedom was 72, then the F-table value was 3.98. The result showed that the value of F-ratio was greater than that of F-table. It means that the use of code switching in Indonesian pop songs significantly improved studentsÂ’ ability in vocabulary.
