  • In teaching learning process, the teacher might get some problems. The problems faced by the teacher in teaching English are divided into: the linguistic problem and non­linguistic problem. Linguistic problem is the problems which come from the language itself and cause difficulties for people who study it. Meanwhile, non­linguistic problem is the problem that influences the language learning. This study concerns with the non­linguistic problems in teaching English faced by the teacher at SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Batu. The writer conducts this study because she wants to know the teacher’s non­linguistic problems in teaching English and the solution to cope with those problems. In this study, the writer used qualitative research design. The subject of this study was the second grade teacher at SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Batu. To collect the data, this study used interview and observation. The semi structured interview and non­participant observation was used in this study. The purposes of this study were to find out the problems faced by the second grade teacher and the solutions to cope with the non­linguistic problems in teaching English at SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Batu. The result of this study indicated that the problems covered non­linguistic problems were the students, facilities, time availability, and exposure. In solving problem of students, the teacher used interesting topic and techniques in teaching English in order to attract the students’ attention to her explanation. In solving problem of facilities, the teacher had to be able to become a mediator for her students in classroom if she could not use the facility available at school in teaching English. In solving problem of time availability, the teacher had to be able to control the students’ attitude in the classroom when teaching learning process was going on, the school also organized extracurricular activity outside the regular class namely conversation/English club. In solving problem of exposure, the teacher always motivated the students to use English and always practice to use English in simple sentences when communicating with her students.
