  • Orally disintegrating tablets (ODT) is a solution for pediatric and geriatric patients who have difficulty in taking oral dosage forms. One of the techniques used to formulate ODT is wet granulation. In this research the influence of polyplasdone XL-10 as disintegrant on physical characteristics of paracetamol ODT prepared by wet granulation was observed. Concentration of Polyplasdone XL-10 used in this research were 0%, 5%, and 10%. The physical charateristics of granules including the number of fines, moisture content, flow rate and angle of repose.The number of fines showed good result for all the formulas that were made, while the moisture content were too dry, as well as the flow rate and still has the angle of reposewere very bad. The granules were pressed into tablet with a diameter + 13 mm by hydraulic press witha pressure of 1 ton in+ 3 seconds. Then the physical characteristics of the tablets were measured. The results showed that increasing the concentrations of polyplasdone XL-10 in the formula causes the decrease in hardnessand disintegration time with increasing friabilityof the tablet. From statistical analysis, it could be seen that there was a significant difference between F1 with F2 and F3, but there was no significant difference between F2 and F3 about hardness and disintegration time. Whereas, from statistical analysis about friability that was significant difference between F3 with F1 and F2, but there was no significant difference between F1 with F2. It could be concluded thatF2 which have the concentrationwith 5% polyplasdone XL-10 can provide the results of hardness and disintegration timegave optimal physical characteristicsof paracetamol ODT although have the relatively high a friability .
