- Literature is an interesting subject because the readers can understand and imagine what the author said. Through studying literature, we can get enjoyment, delight, and satisfaction. Film is one of literary works that is taken as the object of the study. It is because films illustrates the real life, includes conflicts, problems, and other aspects of life. Film as one of literary works gives not only pleasure to its audiences but also a valuable lesson and information about people and life. Those are the points why it is very interesting to analyze literature, especially film. This study focuses on Oliver Twist’s inferiority feeling in Roman Polanski’s Film “Oliver Twist”. There are three statements of problems in this study. Those are: (1) What are the causes of Oliver Twist’s inferiority feeling?, (2) What are the effects of Oliver Twist’s inferiority feeling on his life?, (3) How does Oliver Twist overcome his inferiority feeling?. This study is conducted by using descriptive qualitative research design. This study uses descriptive qualitative research because it is intended to find out the causes and describe the effects of Oliver Twist’s inferiority feeling, also explain the way to overcome Oliver Twist’s inferiority feeling in Roman Polanski’s film “Oliver Twist”. Moreover, objective approach is used in this study because the writer wants to analyze Oliver Twist’s inferiority feeling without studying Roman Polanski’s background of life as the director. The result of the analysis shows that the causes of Oliver Twist inferiority feeling are social disadvantages include; loss of parents, living in poverty, and bad society. Then it caused negative efffects which obstruct his way to achieve his desire such as anxiety increase, and insecurity feeling. Furthermore Oliver Twist is aware that he has to change his life, so he try to overcome his inferiority feeling by staying away from bad society, improving self, and getting support from Mr. Brownlow. Finally, he succesfully overcome his inferiority feeling. Then he more cheerful and enthusiastic to his future.
