- This research is aimed at investigating the “Lebay” words and their analysis into hyperbolic forms in status updates of facebookers. “Lebay” is commonly used slang for the word "excessive". “Lebay” is an exaggerated response to someone who demonstrated through his/her behavior. The definition of excessive is something not commonly seen by the environment. “Lebay” refers to an excessive response to a stimulus. Responses may include comments (such as assessment, the results of thought), facial expressions, and body language. “Lebay” is one of taunts word that is used by all ages, except infants and the digital immigrant. Digital immigrant here means the person who was 30th ages up and born beforethe introduction of digital technology begun. A descriptive qualitative research was used as design of the study and it was used to find out the data analysis as well. The respondents in this study were 23 facebookers of Neny’s friends of facebook. In this study the researcher focused on “Lebay” words used by facebookers on facebook status updates. The data were obtained through documentation and questionnaire on facebook. This study showed that there were 89 of “Lebay” words that were represented into 4 types of hyperbolic forms; they were Single- word hyperbole, numerical hyperbole, repetition hyperbole and comparison hyperbole. The researcher also found the other “Lebay” words and their meaning were also signified by exaggerated or excessive. Among the 89 words, the researchers found 10 patterns. Second answer while, the teenagers used “Lebay” words because they need to express something they feel to get the attention from anyone else and follow the trend phenomena.
